Solar & Battery Backup in Rancho Santa Fe, CA
6.6kW solar and one Powerwall is the suburban default. RSF estates need 12kW and three Powerwalls stacked. We design for the real load.
30+ North County jobs. C-10 licensed. Tesla Certified.
RSF estates have loads that suburban homes do not: security systems with multiple cameras and access gates, well pumps, pool and spa equipment, multiple HVAC zones, wine cellars. When the grid drops, all of that stops unless you have enough storage capacity. A single Powerwall handles the essentials for a few hours. A properly sized estate system keeps everything running.
We are based in Fallbrook, not Miramar or Irvine. We know The Covenant’s ARB process and we have navigated it. We size systems against your actual usage data, not a generic online calculator. Ian Crilly and Landon Raster are on every job.
SDG&E raised rates significantly in early 2026 and more increases are in regulatory review. The rate trajectory makes the solar math work even without the federal tax credit, which expired December 31, 2025. Call (858) 215-1239 or text (619) 353-9095.

What we do for Rancho Santa Fe homeowners
Solar installation
RSF estates regularly run 3x the average suburban electricity load. We size systems correctly: 10-15kW is common here. Larger roof areas mean the system can be sized to cover most of your actual consumption rather than a fraction of it. RSF sits inland at elevation with clear-sky days and minimal marine layer, producing strong solar yields year-round.
12kW from $26,995, approximately $226/mo financed. Includes full permit and SDG&E interconnection.
Solar installation detailsBattery backup
Two or three Tesla Powerwall 3 units stacked for estate-level backup. Keeps security systems, climate control, well pump, and pool equipment running when the grid goes down. Powerwalls stack natively on the same wall bracket and appear as one large battery in the app. We design the backup load list with you before selecting system size.
Bundle 12kW solar and Powerwall from $32,724, approximately $273/mo financed via GoGreen. Rates depend on FICO, term, and lender. RCH is not the lender.
Battery backup detailsEV charger installation
Tesla Wall Connector installation for estates. We handle multi-car garages, long conduit runs, and panel capacity verification. Tesla Certified. Many RSF properties have detached garages or guesthouses. If your charger needs a subpanel run or trenching, we handle that too. One contractor, one project.
EV charger installation detailsElectrical
Estate wiring, panel upgrades to 400-amp service, subpanel runs for detached structures, gate and security system wiring. We hold a full C-10 license, not a solar-only C-46. Federal Pacific and Stab-Lok panel replacements, SPAN Smart Panel installation, and coordination across multiple structures on the same property.
Electrical panel detailsWhy RSF estates need two or three Powerwalls
Battery backup in RSF is not about PSPS fear. It is about keeping an estate running normally during any grid interruption, whether that lasts two hours or two days. A 4,000-6,000 sq ft home running three HVAC zones, a well pump, pool and spa equipment, a wine cellar, and a multi-camera security system has a backup load that a single Powerwall cannot cover for more than a few hours.
A single Tesla Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh and covers essential loads. An estate running three HVAC zones, a well pump, and security hardware needs two to three units stacked: 27-40.5 kWh total. Tesla Powerwalls stack natively on the same wall bracket, connect to the same Gateway, and appear as one large battery in the Tesla app. There is no additional complexity in adding a second or third unit.
We design the backup load list with you before selecting system size. You tell us which circuits matter most: HVAC zones, the well pump, pool equipment, kitchen, security. We map that against your actual usage and right-size the battery bank. A 12kW solar system generating 15,000+ kWh per year makes three Powerwalls financially rational. The solar offsets the ongoing utility cost while the batteries handle outages.
The Covenant’s architectural review board restricts ground-mount installations and requires low-profile rooftop installs with minimal visual impact. We have navigated this process and handle the HOA submission, including renderings if the ARB requests them. California Civil Code 714 protects your right to install solar, but the ARB review timeline runs 4-6 weeks, and submitting with the right documentation the first time avoids delays.

Does solar make sense in Rancho Santa Fe right now?
RSF homeowners often carry $500-800 per month in SDG&E bills. A 12-15kW system offsets the majority of that load. The federal residential tax credit expired December 31, 2025, but the rate trajectory on SDG&E makes the math work even without it. Every year rates go up, the economics of solar improve retroactively.
RSF’s inland location works in your favor. Fewer overcast days than the coast, higher peak sun hours, and more consistent year-round production. Larger estate homes also have more usable roof area, which means the system can be sized to cover more of your actual consumption rather than just a portion of it.
We run the production model against your actual usage before quoting. No generic estimates. See /solar and payment calculator for more detail.

Questions from Rancho Santa Fe homeowners
Will my HOA in The Covenant approve a solar installation?
California Civil Code 714 limits HOA restrictions on solar, but The Covenant's architectural review board (ARB) has legitimate requirements around placement, equipment visibility, and roof penetrations. We handle the ARB submission, provide renderings if required, and specify low-profile flush-mount racking that minimizes visual impact. Most applications go through within 4-6 weeks.
Can solar panels be installed without them being visible from the street?
In most cases, yes. RSF lots are typically large enough that panel placement on rear or side slopes keeps the array out of primary sight lines. We model panel placement before submission so you can see the result before any work starts.
How many Powerwalls does an estate-size home need?
It depends on your backup load list. A standard whole-home backup for a 4,000-6,000 sq ft estate typically requires two to three Powerwalls (27-40.5 kWh). We walk through the backup loads with you: how many HVAC zones, whether the well pump is on the backup circuit, pool and spa equipment, security systems. Each adds to the sizing. Three Powerwalls stacked costs approximately $35,000-41,000 installed depending on configuration.
Does financing work for a $30,000+ solar and battery project?
Yes. GoGreen financing through California credit unions goes up to $75,000 with no lien on the home. 20-year terms are available for projects over $25,000. At Cal Coast Credit Union (7.98% APR, 20-year term), a $32,724 12kW and Powerwall bundle comes to approximately $273/mo. Your rate depends on your FICO score, term, and lender selection. RCH is not the lender. See /financing for full calculator.
