Do HOAs in Aviara or Bressi Ranch allow solar?
Yes. California Civil Code 714 limits HOA restrictions on solar. HOAs can require reasonable placement guidelines (avoiding street-facing panels where alternatives exist) but cannot prohibit solar outright. We have installed in Aviara and Bressi Ranch and handle the HOA submission paperwork.
Does coastal air damage solar panels or batteries?
Marine-grade components matter here. We specify corrosion-resistant racking and check inverter and battery enclosure ratings for salt-air environments. Tesla Powerwall 3 is rated for outdoor installation and meets the salt-fog exposure requirement for coastal CA.
How long does the Carlsbad permit and interconnection take?
Carlsbad Building Division typically processes solar permits in 2-4 weeks for straightforward systems. SDG&E interconnection adds 2-6 weeks after approval. We handle both. One customer came to us after another contractor had left their permit stuck for 18 months. We resolved it.
Does the marine layer reduce my system's output?
Slightly in the mornings, but coastal Carlsbad compensates with cooler panel temperatures. Panel efficiency drops about 0.3-0.4% per degree Celsius above 25°C. On a hot inland summer day a panel at 70°C runs 15-18% below spec. A Carlsbad panel at 45°C runs about 7% below spec. The marine layer is a net wash or slight advantage.
