Why the credential matters

Not every electrician can install Tesla equipment correctly

Tesla does not let any contractor install Powerwall, Wall Connector, or Powershare. Each product requires passing a separate technical certification exam with a score of 80% or higher, plus completing Tesla's product-specific training program. Installers go through in-person sessions, virtual instructor-led courses, and hands-on commissioning before they are authorized to do the work.

The reason Tesla requires this is liability and performance. A Powerwall wired incorrectly will not provide backup power when you need it. A Wall Connector installed without proper load calculation will trip breakers or damage your vehicle charger over time. A Powershare install done wrong creates safety hazards with bidirectional power flow.

When you hire a Tesla Certified Installer, you get:

  • A warranty-valid installation. Tesla's product warranty requires certified installation. An uncertified install voids your coverage.
  • A contractor who has passed Tesla's own technical exam, not just a general electrical license.
  • Direct access to Tesla Energy technical support when needed.
  • Correct commissioning through the Tesla app from day one.

RCH holds active certifications for all three Tesla residential products we install. Ian personally completed each certification and manages every Tesla job.

13+ Powerwalls installed across North County San Diego

The Tesla Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh of usable energy. That covers most home essentials for 12 to 24 hours on a single charge. With solar recharging during the day, a Powerwall can carry a home through a multi-day outage without grid power.

In SDG&E territory, the case for Powerwall goes beyond outages. SDG&E charges 45.7 cents per kWh on average. Under NEM 3.0, solar panels that export midday produce credits worth far less than what you pay at peak hours in the evening. A Powerwall stores your midday solar production and releases it during the 4pm to 9pm window, when grid power costs the most. That is when the payback math works.

Powerwall 3 also functions without solar. It charges from the grid during off-peak hours and provides backup when the grid goes down. Adding solar later is straightforward because the Powerwall is already compatible.

Starting installed price$13,729

Some standalone installs require additional rapid-shutdown hardware (about $349 per device, roughly one per three panels). Exact number after a free site assessment.

Home EV charging

The Tesla Wall Connector is the fastest Level 2 home charger Tesla makes. At 48 amps on a 60-amp circuit, it delivers up to 44 miles of range per hour of charging. For most Tesla owners, that means a full charge overnight from a typical daily commute.

Installation is more than bolting a charger to a wall. The work involves:

  • Load calculation to confirm your panel can support the dedicated circuit
  • Permit pull from your city or county
  • Running conduit and wiring from your electrical panel to the garage or parking location
  • Circuit breaker installation
  • Wall Connector mounting and commissioning through the Tesla app

If your panel needs an upgrade before the charger can be added, we handle that too. One contractor, one permit, one project.

Powershare turns your Tesla into a home battery

Tesla Powershare is vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology built into the Cybertruck and supported on select Tesla models. When the grid goes down, your parked Tesla can power your home directly through the Wall Connector, drawing from the vehicle's battery instead of the grid.

A Cybertruck has up to 123 kWh of usable battery capacity. At typical home loads, that is several days of backup power from a vehicle that also drives you to work.

Powershare installation is not a standard electrician job. It requires a specific Wall Connector with Powershare capability, a dedicated circuit designed for bidirectional power flow, and proper commissioning through Tesla's systems to ensure safe automatic transfer between grid power and vehicle power.

What North County homeowners say about our Tesla installs

RCH Renewables provided the best offer to install my new Tesla Wall Connector. Scheduling was easy, and a technical person arrived exactly on time and did a fantastic job installing circuit breaker, running the wires in a conduit on a wall.

His team did an incredible job. The work was done efficiently, professionally, and effectively. They installed a Tesla home charging system in my home which required running some conduit and swapping some breakers, and it has worked perfectly.
